It’s Not About What’s Wrong With You, It’s About What’s Wrong FOR You

As I was folding clothes this morning, the phrase “the wellness of women” came into my field.

As a life and wellness coach,  I find myself thinking about and reflecting on wellness quite often.  But when this particular phrase entered my mind today, I felt into an even greater depth of what this really means to us on a larger scale.

I believe that so many of us, as women, are un-well on many levels (I do realize that un-well is not a word, but it was what I needed here).  The pace of life these days is really taking a toll on women’s bodies.  Sure, we’re projecting an outer image that we’re holding it all together and that we’ve got the juggling act under control.  And I would imagine that for some of you, that is “working” on some level.

But what happens when you come to a place where it’s no longer working for you, really, on any level, and you can no longer operate in denial?

You begin to acknowledge that yes, indeed, something’s got to change. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting Back to Basics: The Optimal Eating Schedule

It’s usually about this time of year that New Year’s Resolutions begin to fall by the wayside.  Is this feeling true for you as well?

I think it’s helpful to remember that you’re not alone, and also to be gentle with yourself and not go down a path of beating yourself up as you may have done in the past.  Focus on what you have been doing and what is going well, and take some time to course-correct as needed.

My clients often experience this challenge as well.  They get off to a great start and feel really excited and tapped in to what they want and where they’re headed, and then they reach a point where they feel like they’re losing steam and that it’s all becoming too much.  That’s where the support and accountability from me, as their coach, comes into play.  And that’s why you’ll often hear me advising you to consider getting some support as well in your own journey; going it alone is usually a recipe for frustration and frequently leads to a person giving up.

I also find that connecting back in with the basics, and really making sure that you’re building a solid, sustainable foundation of health, can be just what you need to renew your commitment and continue to move forward.

One of the basic building blocks that I would like to share, or perhaps remind you of, is the optimal eating schedule.  Below you will find a schedule that promotes consistent energy, stable blood sugar, balanced moods, and effective metabolism.  Compare it to your current daily schedule and make any necessary tweaks.

——————————————————————————————————————————–

Breakfast:  Eat within an hour of getting up, ideally before 8:00 a.m.

Mid-morning snack:  Around 10:00/10:30

Lunch:  Between 11:30 and 12:30

Mid-afternoon snack:  Around 2:30/3:00

Dinner:  Eat by 6:00 p.m.

What do you LOVE?

Just a quick post today. But definitely one that I hope makes an impact on you.

As part of reconnecting with who you are, it’s so important to regularly ask yourself this question: What do you LOVE?

Not what’s nice, or what would be fine, or what’s okay. But what is it that you LOVE?

When we’re children, most of us have no problem identifying what we love, and often we’re quite vocal about it.

As we get older, take on more roles, become less sure of who we are as individuals, we often lose touch with what we LOVE.

How about you? Can you easily create a list of 10 or 20 or even more of what you love? Read the rest of this entry »
