Encouraging Health Series: Natalie Hjelsvold Spices Things up Just in time for Valentine’s Day
What a great conversation today on another edition of the “Encouraging Health Series.” I had the pleasure of speaking with Natalie Hjelsvold from http://www.vixennatalie.blogspot.com. The topic was passion and intimacy and ways that we, as women, can include these in our already packed and super-busy lives. I found what Natalie shared to be incredibly valuable, and the conversation really created some powerful shifts in my own life.

What are Your Non-Negotiables?
I have a question for you: Do you currently have a list of non-negotiables that provide the foundation for your health and well-being?
“A list of what?” you ask?
If that’s how you responded, I’m not surprised. I hear this from women like you quite often, actually. In addition to the regular demands of everyday living, you’re also responsible for the tremendous task of running your business and serving your clients. So who’s got time for this health and well-being foundation to which I’m referring?
A more appropriate question, actually, would be Who can afford not to make the time?
You see, just like we wouldn’t expect our cars to keep running if we didn’t provide them with the proper fuel and regular maintenance, it’s the same when it comes to our bodies.
And yet, sadly, most of us give more attention and care to our cars than we do our own bodies.
But the truth is, our bodies deserve to be respected and honored, not just once in a while when we’re getting a massage (althoughI don’t deny that those are pretty wonderful, aren’t they?), but each and every day. Read the rest of this entry »
Resolutions Fall by the Wayside? A More Gentle Approach for Making Changes
I was talking with a family member recently, and I was reminded once again of how important it is to focus on moderation and making gradual changes over time when it comes to improving your overall health.
About this time of year, the majority of people who made New Year’s Resolutions have given up on them. Are you one of these people? More often than not, resolutions fail because they are too extreme, and they encourage an “all-or-nothing” mentality.
Can you relate?
You either exercise everyday, or else you’ve failed.
You give up sugar completely, or, yup, you guessed it, you’ve failed.
You stop drinking coffee completely, and no more caffeine in any form, for that matter. So, no more chocolate. Oh, you weren’t able to do that, either? Failure!
I want to add some levity to this discussion, because there’s a chance you’re beating yourself up about falling off the wagon once again. And, in all seriousness, that doesn’t get you anywhere.

Commitment Energy for the New Year
I’ve been thinking a lot about 2011 recently. I’m no longer fond of resolutions; I haven’t been for a while. For me, the idea just doesn’t resonate anymore.
However, I am feeling drawn to making some New Year commitments to myself. And focusing on putting my energy into honoring them. Just as I honor those to everyone else.
Commitment energy can be a really amazing thing. There’s emotion tied to it. Often times even passion. When we have commitment energy around something, we are far more likely to stick with it when the going gets tough.
And the going always gets tough, doesn’t it? If something we wanted were easy to achieve, I would imagine we would already be experiencing it, right?

Is Your Life on Hold Until Your “Makeover” is Complete?
Have you ever felt like you’ve put your life on hold until things are “just so”? Like you can’t really move forward until all of the details are in place, and you start to feel like you’re in a holding pattern?
This has been my experience lately as my website gets a makeover. It’s been brewing for a while now, and just in the last week or so I’ve acknowledged to myself that it is, indeed, time for a new look.
Since that acknowledgement, however, I feel like everything in my business has come to a halt. For some reason, my usual business tasks that I typically take action on each week are not getting done. Instead, I’ve postponed my routine activities and placed them on the backburner until this new website is up and running.
“Are you kidding me?!”, is what I’ve been asking myself lately. With my perfectionistic tendencies, I know full well that it will take some time for me to create this new site. I will find (and have already found) a variety of activities to distract me from moving forward. Oddly enough, however, none of those activities are helping me to move my business forward in any way.
